This project started out as a $800,000 contact to abate and tear down the old field office building and put in an asphalt parking lot with associated site amenities such as benches, sidewalks and tables. Through our value engineering process we discovered that the closest asphalt plant was 60 miles away and due to the high trucking cost of the asphalt we could option to a 6" concrete parking lot for close to the same dollar amount as there was a concrete plant in town. The Bureau agreed and we went with the concrete parking lot, doubling the strength of their lot for a minimal cost increase . This is a perfect example of how our value engineering process helps our customers gain more value for their dollar.
